The story

Classics graduate Amelia enters a contract marriage with Alexander Harrington, CEO of a powerful dynasty, and becomes his second wife. For three years she endures abuse from his son Oliver, including two miscarriages, while Alexander protects the boy, remains attached to his former wife, and treats Amelia as a purchased caretaker. Finally abandoning hope, Amelia accepts a research position at Oxford and leaves the mansion. She discovers a third pregnancy but chooses not to tell her husband, walking into a new life alone as Alexander realizes too late what he has lost.
