When the Moon Hides Crown
To escape an arranged marriage and prove herself, Alpha's daughter Seraphina disguises herself as a man to…
A cataclysmic shift in the Earth's core unleashes a global heatwave of unprecedented intensity, sending outdoor temperatures rocketing past 60 degrees Celsius. Anderson, a former building structural engineer and a timid single father, had managed to keep his apartment building operational in the apocalypse using his expertise. But the neighbors, incited by the ruthless gang leader Marcus, stole the last bottle of ice water he had reserved for his gravely ill daughter. Then they threw both father and daughter down the elevator shaft to their brutal deaths. In his final moments of despair, Anderson is reborn—24 hours before the heatwave begins. Armed with foreknowledge, he frantically converts his apartment into an airtight, temperature-controlled fortress, stockpiles every essential supply, and cuts off the water supply to the rest of the building. When the heatwave hits, he watches impassively as the very people who killed him and his daughter descend from desperate pleas to raving madness. When Marcus leads a fiery assault on Anderson's fortress, and his daughter loses consciousness once more from smoke inhalation and oxygen deprivation, something in Anderson snaps completely. He douses himself in antifreeze to withstand the heat and charges into the 70-degree inferno. Armed with a liquid nitrogen gun and a network of deadly booby traps he had prepared, he hunts down the rioters one by one. He defeats Marcus on the blistering hot rooftop helipad. Then he takes the last remaining bottle of ice water and pours it slowly onto the scorching concrete right in front of Marcus, where it evaporates instantly in a wisp of white steam. Before turning away, he says coldly: "I won't kill you. The sun will." He flies his unconscious daughter to a hidden underground ice cellar on the coast that he had located using his foreknowledge. As the helicopter lifts off, the skyscraper behind them erupts into a towering inferno, a giant burning torch against the blood-red sky. In the end, the timid father had become a demon—all to protect the only thing in the world that was worth saving.
