Zhang Junjia is an optimistic yet repressed high school student. Transferring to a new school, he joins the school band, Backspace, and meets He Yankai (also known as He), a calm and reserved senior. Music brings them closer and helps them gradually face their inner wounds.Unfortunately, a car accident takes He's life, plunging Junjia into a state of denial and avoidance as he keeps sending daily messages to someone who will never reply. One day, He wakes up in the Multi-Door Space, where the soul-ferryman tells him, "You are not here to change fate, but to help him find a way out." So, He silently stays by his side, trying to help Junjia learn to smile again.As the band is re-formed and friendships rekindle, Junjia finds courage again in music. When he sings the unfinished song on stage, he finally turns around and whispers thanks to the air.
